Spring Starts at State College


As the snow melts and flowers bloom, spring breathes new life into State College. After a long, cold winter, the Arboretum at Penn State comes back to life, welcoming students and visitors with colorful gardens, peaceful walking paths, and blossoming trees. But the Arboretum isn’t the only thing springing back to life after a winter hiatus. Spring is also the start of Penn State’s sports seasons! Here are a few you won’t want to miss.

Spring Sports:



  • Baseball and Softball: Enjoy America’s favorite pastime at the fields! Catch a game (maybe a foul ball) and a hot dog this spring!
  • Lacrosse: Watch one of the country’s top teams play one of North America’s oldest and most exciting sports!

A State College Summer


When the days lengthen and the thermostat rises, you know summer has come to Pennsylvania. Many schools are out for the summer, but State College keeps busy with events. So, grab an ice cream cone at Penn State’s Berkey Creamery, and get ready for a season of fun!

Summer Events:


  • Hockey Season: Escape the summer sun at Pegula Ice Arena. Watch a thrilling hockey game, or enjoy some public skating in the cool, air-conditioned rink.
  • Central PA 4thFest: Get fired up with one of the biggest fireworks displays in the country! But it’s not just about the fireworks. Celebrate Independence Day with music, food, and family-friendly festivities.
  • Annual Bellefonte Arts & Crafts: Okay, this one isn’t in State College, but it’s nearby in Bellefonte. Check out Happy Valley’s amazing local artists and craftsmen at this annual arts fair.

Autumn Arrives at State College



Red and gold leaves erupt on the trees. Penn State’s campus is packed with students, and there’s a chill in the air. Autumn has arrived on the scene. Fall is a particularly vibrant season at State College, and not just because of the fall foliage. Here are just a few reasons fall is a favorite season for State College residents and visitors.

When the trees go bare and the snow starts to fall, you know the holiday season is on its way!. The cold and snow may put a damper on some spirits, but that’s a mistake. The weather outside may be frightful, but there’s still so much fun to be had. Here are some ways you can enjoy the winter days:

  • Basketball Games: Basketball season might start in autumn, but winter is the height of the season. Watch the Nittany Lions hit the Bryce Jordan Center court all winter long!
